LEARNING MATH FACTS
Students at The Branch School in Kindergarten through fifth grade have been participating in the Kumon Math program for over 10 years. Last year one third of our elementary students placed on the National Kumon Honor Roll. One of our students was fifth in the nation for Kindergarten; a fifth grade student placed twelfth in the nation. Our students have consistently placed on the national Kumon Honor Roll for the past ten years.
The Kumon Math is a supplemental math program developed in Japan over forty years ago. It provides students a strong foundation in the basics needed for success in higher level math. The Branch School recognized early on that knowing basic facts in math enables students to be more successful in problem solving. Mastery in the basic math facts is obtained by students daily working at their own level and pace on a series of worksheets designed to provide repeated practice and mastery. Step by step students progress through the levels of Kumon from learning their numbers to high school calculus. Mastery and speed are needed in order to move to the next level.
Kumon Math at The Branch School is provided in addition to our regular hands-on math program. It allows the student to be an independent learner and progress beyond age or grade level.
